These centers are built by skilled operators with adequate resources and can enhance their power supply with batteries and other clean technologies, rather than relying on fossil fuels.

Need for Consultation and Local Benefits

Host communities of these centers must benefit from their presence. This includes genuine consultation and meaningful benefits as a condition for project approval. This could include local batteries or electronic waste recycling programs to prevent critical minerals from going to landfills. Additionally, participation in the selection of establishment locations and the type of land occupied should be considered.

Ultimately, by creating educational pathways with TAFE and local universities, workers can be helped to participate in this industry. Overall, data centers should invest in renewable energy resources, energy and water efficiency standards should be mandatory, and decisions regarding the siting of data centers should consider the impact on resources and communities from the outset.

Legal details are still being formulated. By establishing these frameworks now, it can be ensured that data centers minimize pressure on public resources and contribute positively to Australia's economic outlook and energy transition.
