In August 2025, Abuzar Hussain, a Pakistani shepherd, was working in the foothills of Shigar when a terrifying sound suddenly shattered the silence of the valley. He quickly realized that a glacial flood was heading towards his village and he had only a few minutes to react. With access to a mobile signal, Abuzar was able to contact his village and relay the warning through the mosque's loudspeaker. This phone call saved hundreds of lives, while millions of dollars had been invested in early warning systems in the area.
