On January 5, 2025, my volunteer group joined the 23rd Special Presidential Unit of Ukraine and entered a thicket called CHAI on the outskirts of Kateline, a few kilometers west of Pokrovsk. Our goal was to occupy a position that was changing on the DeepState map, a tool for tracking military operations in the Russia-Ukraine war.
War Map: Red, Green, and Blue
The DeepState map depicts the status of the war in different colors: red areas are under the control of the aggressors, while green and blue areas represent regions that the Ukrainian army has successfully defended or recaptured. In recent days, the status of the front line has been changing, and it seems that these changes are shaping the future of further battles in this region.
Entering CHAI faced many challenges. The thickets act as a natural shield, but at the same time, the dangers from enemy fire are always present. At any moment, we could be shot at, and this fear is always in the minds of the soldiers.
Future Outlook of the Ukraine War
These developments are just one of countless stories in a war that continues with no signs of ending. While Ukrainian forces strive to bring the front line under their control, questions arise about the future of this war and its impact on the fate of the region and the world.
Do these changes signify a shift in the balance of power or just another tactical maneuver in an endless war? This is a question whose answer will become clear in the coming days.
