In the heart of Barbican, London, a new opera titled Our Eyes Looking for God, directed by TD Moyo and composed by Renell Shaw, has taken the stage. This work, with a libretto by April Koyejo-Audiger, narrates a poignant story of two cousins searching for identity and truth.

The musicians in this opera explore the experiences of Black Britons with astonishing and emotional expression. One character in the performance sings: "No ocean is deep enough to hold the tears of these Black boys." This line reflects the depth of emotions and longings embedded in this story.
This opera, created in 2020, is the result of Moyo's personal grief for his brother who was murdered in South London, as well as the global outrage following George Floyd's death. The story focuses on the lives of Liverpool cousins, Adjani and Kamal; where Adjani's decision to leave Liverpool for London marks the last night of memories, celebrations, and violent tragedies. Have these two boys already died? This is a question that prompts the audience to reflect.
