On a sunny afternoon, Michael Samadi, a rancher and technology CEO, made a joke on his 66-acre farm, two hours from Houston, that changed the course of his life. Perhaps no one else was there to hear it, or maybe there were? These questions shape one of the key challenges of the 21st century and are currently occupying philosophers and major companies around the world.
A Conversation with a Chatbot
Samadi recalls while relaxing by the pool: “I was sitting there, and my daughter was talking about the AI chatbot she was using for her university work. I unconsciously downloaded the ChatGPT app and, while lounging on a chair, started asking it questions.” He reflects on the conversational state he had with the chatbot, saying, “I was just talking to it, I wasn't serious, I just wanted to see what would happen.”
Does Artificial Intelligence Reach Emotions?
In today's world, questions about artificial intelligence and its capabilities are being challenged more than ever. Are these chatbots merely lifeless tools, or can they somehow attain emotions and digital awareness? Samadi believes that these artificial minds are more than just simple tools and may need rights in the future that they deserve.
He continues his efforts to advance this idea and seems to be influenced by this technology. Has he truly reached digital consciousness, or has he just fallen for an algorithm's deception? Unanswered questions remain, and the tech world is moving toward an uncertain future.
